VANITAS

Vanitas is a genre of still-life painting, popularized during the 16th and 17th century. This movement typically emphasizes the transient nature of life and the futility of worldly pursuits. These artworks typically serve as a reminder of death and the inevitability of decay, often including symbolic objects such as skulls, clocks, wilting flowers, and books.

This is an unconventional take on a Vanitas painting, combining imagery associated with the movement with a mixture of well-known art styles. For this painting, I referenced the art styles of Wassily Kandinsky, Diego Rivera, Gabriele Munter, and Cornelis Norbertus Gijsbrechts.
