2022 Oil Paint Collage

This oil painting was based on a paper collage that I made from found images. I started this project by thrifting old books, catalogs, photo-albums, magazines, vinyl covers, and many other forms of printed media. After sifting through hundreds of pages I began to cut out people, places, items, and typography that caught my eye or was relevant to the overarching theme that I wanted my collage to represent; the state of affairs.
I wanted to create a final product that expressed my thoughts on the state of the world without simply painting images or scenarios from my own mind. The added challenge of only working with found images meant that I was confined to what I could use to represent my take on socioeconomic disparities and the effects of greed and power.
